Beekeeping - What's that all about?

Bees are pollinators without which, apparently, we would all die pretty quickly because most edible plants would not survive, animals would have no natural feed and so on. There's a lot of science around this but let's just assume this is correct and that we need bees. So that gives us a nice warm feeling if we decide to become a beekeeper, but what's in it for us?

Well, it can provide a very interesting and satisfying hobby, and social contact with other beekeepers. Training is essential and some local beekeeping organisations can provide this. We are based in and around Malvern in Worcestershire and provide a training course for people completely new to beekeeping. You would become a member, not just of MUBKA (Malvern & Upton Beekeeping Association) but also of BBKA (British Beekeeping Association) with its extensive knowledge base and support network. In MUBKA we have around 200 members, many of whom are extremely experienced and happily give up their time to share their passion for beekeeping with new members, offering their support and mentoring in the early months and years. More about our training here.

As a member of MUBKA you would have access to all of our events, some of which are educational, some purely social but many a bit of a mixture of both. Our current programme card can be found here
